Para captar as imagens, Gilvan rodou mais de 4 mil quilômetros na região do semiárido pernambucano, durante um mês, no verão de 2013.Pernambucano radicado no Rio de Janeiro há 7 anos, Gilvan Barreto já trabalhou em jornais e revistas. Nos últimos anos, vem se dedicando aos projetos de documentação fotográfica e publicou o livro Moscouzinho (Tempo d'Imagem, 2012) que recebeu menção honrosa no concurso internacional POY Latam 2013. Sa collection de paysages architecturaux et utopiques avec des traces de présence humaine témoignent d’une étrange proximité. Goiris adopte régulièrement le point de vue de 'l'étranger', créant ainsi une distance palpable entre lui et le sujet. Sa photographie nous fait prendre conscience de la position paradoxale 'proche et pourtant 'distanciées'. Le temps et l’espace sont portés à des sommets nouveaux dans un jeu de formes, d’abstraction, de lumière et de profondeur. On trouve souvent dans ses œuvres récentes des personnages, et des ébauches de récits y sont suggérées. It occurred to me that I held something within: a list of places that I cannot forget because of the tragedies that identify them, and I began to wonder if each of us has such a list. I set out to photograph sites that were marked during my lifetime. Yet, there was something else that drew me to this work. I think of it as the question of knowability. Experience has taught me again and again that you can never know what lies beneath a surface or behind a façade. Our sense of place, our understanding of photographs of the landscape is inevitably limited and fraught with misreading.” Joel Sternfeld photographed 50 infamous crime sites around the US.
